IN THE CLEARFIELD COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The Elk Hose Company started May 22, 1895 with the name Clearfield Hose Company #2
The Elk Hose came about during the regular August 2, 1895 meeting
The new name came because the Elk Tannings Co.
donated a sum of money. It was first located on Bigler Ave.
The Company was chartered on May 11, 1903, The borough bought the present location for $400
The fire hall was built in 1914. The building and property have been
rentavaded and added to several times. On March 4, 1985, there was a movement to buy a
lot adjoining the fire hall on the 7th St. side of the building.

The company paid $1500.00 or half the cost, the borough paid the other. The lot became
the much-needed parking space. In 1994 , the company built a 14' by 20' wooden addition in the rear
of the fire hall, which now houses the brush truck. In 1995, the members pitched in and remolded the whole building.

The Company has many pieces of apparatus, the first being the hand drawn hose cart
The second wae the first motorized equipment in the Borough, it was bought for $ 3150
There were 3 more engines between the old hose and chemical truck and the new engine, It can empty it's self in less than a minute. It has 270 H P diesel Engine.
It was the last open man cab fire engine produced by K.M.E. Fire Equipment.

Because of the large amount of active members, Elk Hose acquired a 1981 3/4 ton Chevy Step van,
from the D.E.R. forestry to transport manpower. It is painted the same as Engine 4 black over red.
